SUMMER CAMPS
JUNE - AUGUST 2019
General
Q: When does camp start and end?
A: Camp day starts at 9:00 am each day. It is recommended that children arrive between 8:45 am and 8:55 am but they may be dropped off as early as 8:30 am. The camp session ends at 3:00 pm. For those campers who need to extend the day beyond 3:00 pm, there is a late pick-up option to stay as late as 4:00 pm.
Q: Where does camp take place?
A: We offer camps at 2 locations:
UWS Manhattan Day School - 75th and Broadway
(Please note that not all age groups are offered at all locations. Be sure to check your registration details during check out.)
Q: Do you offer early drop-off?
A: Yes, early drop-off is available at no additional cost. With this option campers are allowed to arrive as early as 8:30 am.
Q: Do you offer late pick-up?
A: Late pick-up until 4:00 pm is available at an additional cost. Campers will have the option of either continuing developing their projects of the day, or playing fun group games. Kids may be picked-up at any time after 3:00 pm. The fee for late pick-up is $20 / day or $75 / week if pre-registered.
Q: How old does my child need to be to attend camp?
A: Our youngest campers who want to join us for the summer must be 4 years old by July 1st, 2019.
Q: Can my child participate in the same camp twice?
A: Yes. We offer four different camp themes that repeat throughout the summer. Children may participate in all of our camps in any order, and can also enroll in the same camp theme more than once. Though project themes will be repeated, no two projects will ever be the same unless the camper decides to do so. For example, campers participating in the Printing Profits camp will learn the techniques of screen printing but can do different designs in each week they decide to attend the camp.
Q: Which camp group is most appropriate for my child?
A: Your child’s placement is determined by the grade which they will be entering in the fall of 2019. For example, children currently in 2nd grade and entering 3rd grade this coming fall should join the 3rd-5th grade camp groups.
Q: What is the Instructor to camper ratio?
A: We have a small ratio of 6:1.
Q: Do the staff members have background checks?
A: All staff members complete a rigorous application process that includes reference checks, background checks, and a personal interview. Then they participate in extensive training that covers the camp mission, safety/emergency procedures, behavior management, and child abuse prevention.
Q: How do I get in touch with my child or an instructor during the camp day?
In the event of an emergency, campers can be reached at the appropriate phone number for each camp location. Location phone numbers are provided in the welcome email that is distributed each week prior to camp.
Q: What happens in a typical day at Camp?
A: Camp day typically begins with an icebreaker to help campers get to know one another. Before lunch campers will complete one or two projects depending on the theme for that camp with a snack break as well. Campers then break for lunch and a brief recess. Afterwards, campers return to more fun and involvement in their project from building robots, designing logos, to much more! Check out the Sample Schedules or Camp Info for more details.
Q: Is there a snack time?
A: Yes, campers will have the opportunity to break for snack either half way through the morning or afternoon session. Snacks are not provided by us and should be brought by campers. Please note we ask that parents provide nut-free snacks.
Q: What should I consider when packing lunch for my child?
A: We recommend sending your child’s lunch in an insulated lunch box (if necessary we can keep a lunch chilled). However, we cannot warm or reheat lunches. All campers should be sent to camp with a large water bottle in addition to any drinks included for lunch. Please note we ask that parents provide nut-free lunches. Additionally, hot lunch is provided at the cost of $25 / week.
